A 5-year-old boy riding a bike on Saturday afternoon in Bethel was struck by a SUV and killed, Bethel police said. Police are investigating. Richard Engebreth of Bethel was driving an SUV on Atsaq Street when Preston Payne and another child rode their bikes into the street, a preliminary investigation found.

A Fairbanks man was last seen kayaking the Chena River last week. He has since been reported overdue. 36-year-old Sean Murphy hadn’t returned from his trip. He departed Thursday from a Chena River access point at the end of Chena Small Tracts Road, but his ultimate destination and route weren’t known. He is believed to have continued down the Tanana River. He is aboard a red, single-seat kayak.
